Free 30-minute heart screenings for youth at Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center Saturday, April 2

In an effort to raise awareness of adolescent heart conditions that can lead to sudden cardiac arrest, the Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center is partnering with the nonprofit Living for Zachary to offer free non-invasive heart screenings to youth and young adults on Saturday, April 2, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The screenings will be held at theCenter, located at 1800 Bonnie View Rd, Dallas, TX 75216. Appointments are required, and space is limited.

Sponsored by Living for Zachary and Frontera, the event is open to students ages 12-22 who reside in the surrounding neighborhoods of the Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center, including Cedar Crest, south Oak Cliff and southern Dallas County.

“We strive to support and improve the lives of our neighbors through a variety of services at the Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center, and we’re able to do that thanks to wonderful partners in our community like Living for Zachary,” said Trina Terrell-Andrews, CEO of the Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center. “This particular collaboration not only educates families about heart disease in youth but just might help save a life.”

For children under 18, a parent or guardian MUST be present at the appointment. Screening appointments, which take approximately 30 minutes to complete, will take place in the Center’s gym. Masks are required for patients and guardians. To book an appointment, go to studentheartscreenings.com.

“Living for Zachary is excited to bring our Youth Heart Screening Program to the South Dallas community through this partnership with the Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center,” said Jessica Cook, Executive Director of Living for Zachary. “Heart screenings are important for every young person regardless of athletic activity, because heart conditions can occur in anyone and go undetected throughout life. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve Dallas families with this important service and give more hearts a closer look.”

Created by Baylor Scott & White The Heart Hospital – Plano, Living for Zachary Heart Screening is a special youth program that can help detect heart abnormalities that may lead to sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in youth. Living for Zachary’s non-invasive heart screening package includes an electrocardiogram; limited 2D echocardiogram; blood pressure screening; SCA risk health questionnaire (American Heart Association recommended); and a screening reviewed and interpreted by a board-certified cardiologist.

A Living for Zachary Heart Screening is not a substitute for a thorough exam and consultation with a physician and does not provide clearance for participation in athletics. While the screening seeks to detect conditions that may lead to SCA, it does not guarantee all risks of SCA will be detected.

Volunteers and staff with Living for Zachary and the Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center will wear masks and gloves and will practice social distancing.

The Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center is a multi-purpose facility for youth and families providing physical fitness, enrichment and leadership programs.
