CC Young 2022 Spirit Is Ageless Art Contest Final Submission

CC Young, a premier, non-profit senior living community, will be accepting art and writing entries for its 2022 Spirit is Ageless Art & Writing Contest on August 23 and 24, 2022, at The Point at CC Young.  Residents of CC Young and the general public, age 55 and better, are encouraged to enter, and online registration is currently open. The Spirit is Ageless show will be on display at The Point at CC Young from August 30 through October 28, 2022.

Starting in 1999, the Spirit is Ageless Art & Writing Contest continues to be a very special event for the Dallas-Fort Worth community and CC Young. The annual contest, art gallery show and celebration of artists and writers unites the community to highlight submissions from 15 categories in an effort to showcase each person’s ageless artistry, the capability to thrive, and ambition to share their creativity with the public, regardless of one’s stature. All ability levels are welcome to participate in the contest.

“CC Young is dedicated to serving our residents and community at large so that each individual can grow in body, mind and spirit, no matter their life’s circumstances or limitations. This annual contest inspires and celebrates each individual’s creativity and artistic expression,” said Brian Parman, Director of The Point & Pavilion at CC Young.

The contest is open to the general public, age 55 or better, as well as residents of CC Young. The art is to have been completed at age 55 or better and created by the person entering the piece. CC Young residents are limited to entering two (2) pieces and there is NO cost. All others are limited to entering one (1) complimentary piece and may enter one (1) additional piece of art for a $10.00 entrance fee, which must be paid at the time of art delivery/drop off.  Art will be accepted in the following categories: drawing & illustration (pen, ink, pastel, scratchboard), hard crafts (ceramic, glass, pottery), painting – acrylic, painting – oil & pastel, painting – watercolor, photography, poetry, prose, sculpture, soft crafts – decorative, soft crafts – sewing, soft crafts – textile, masterworks, and group projects.  For full contest details and online entry form, visit www.ccyoung.org/events.  If you need additional information or have any questions, contact Angela Castillo by email at acastillo@ccyoung.org or call (214) 841-2831.

Winners will be recognized at a celebration held at The Point at CC Young Saturday, Friday, October 28, 2022, from 2 to 4 p.m. This year’s featured speaker will be Dr. Laura Evans, Associate Professor, University of North Texas College of Visual Arts & Design. Evans’ presentation “F is for Fake: Han van Meegeren and the Vermeer Forgeries,” will focus on Henricus Antoniu “Han” van Meegeren, who is widely considered to be one of the most accomplished and beloved art forgers of all time.  Van Meegeren specialized in creating work in the style of Vermeer, “rediscovering” lost work by this famed painter (that he had really painted), and selling it to collectors, curators, and even the Third Reich.  In this lecture, Evans will dive into van Meegeren’s complex forgery schemes and how he eventually earned fame and immortality as one of history’s most loved art forgers. RSVPs are required at rsvp@ccyoung.org or call 214-841-2831.
