According to the National Farmers Market Coalition, August 5 through August 11 is National Farmers Market Week. Now is the time to get outside and stock up on fresh produce while checking out the various wares at the best markets in Dallas.

Here are a handful of great events you can attend during the celebration, including festivals and free giveaways.  

Watermelon Festival at Dallas Farmers Market - August 4 

This coming Saturday, the Dallas Farmers Market is hosting a watermelon-themed festival with everything from watermelon carving to watermelon-eating photos. There will also be a petting zoo, face painters, live music and lots more, so make plans to stop by with the whole family.

Wowza Wednesday at Farmers Market of Grapevine - August 8 

In honor of this special week, this farmers market is giving you 10 percent off produce if you like their Facebook page. Pick up tons of healthy snacks, including fresh fruit and veggies. There are also fun flavors of ice cream, so bring your sweet tooth. If you can't make it to the market on Wednesday, swing by on an upcoming Saturday for free samples. 

"The Dog Days of Summer" at Frisco Rotary Farmers Market - August 11 

This is your chance to bring your furry best friend to the market with you. There will be face-painting, live music, and of course, lots of good food for sale. Put your precious pup on a leash and spend a few hours perusing the wares. There will also be kids activities for your little ones, so everyone is welcome to join in the fun. 

Celebration at Coppell Farmers Market - August 11 

From 8 AM until noon (as long as supplies last), you can get free iced coffee and chocolate chip cookies from two special vendors at this farmers market. There will also be a salad demonstration with the owner of Foxy Veggies, amongst other fun displays and tons of fresh food.
