Fair Park’s 5K Urban Dash Holds 2nd Annual Obstacle-Course Race and Festival

The Second Annual Fair Park 5K Urban Dash hits the pavement on Saturday, June 1 with an inspired commitment to honor and raise funds for the Boston Marathon victims, as well as its primary beneficiary, the historic fair grounds of Fair Park and the Cotton Bowl. Nearly half of all registration fees collected will be donated to the Boston Athletic Association in support of the April 15 victims and families. This year’s family-friendly event will also include Urban Dash festival booths and the signature obstacle-course race.

“The Friends of Fair Park 5K organizers believe that we are called to help our fellow runners and the Boston community. How best can we help, other than to support the founding organization of the 117-year marathon, The Boston Athletic Association? We are humbled by the courage of all those in the greater Boston area,” said Jason Bradberry, Urban Dash Race Director and Friends of Fair Park Assistant Director.

The June 1 run and festival is a great way to have fun and give back to the Boston Marathon Community!  Here’s how it will work: Sign up to run the Urban Dash here. The registration fee is $50; when the discount code “BOSTON” is used, $20 of each $50 registration fee will be donated. Event organizers will call for a moment of silence before the start of the 8 a.m. race, and runners will be encouraged to wear green ribbons or t-shirts to honor fellow Boston athletes.

This 5K race is no walk in the park! The obstacle-course run will include balance beams, wall climb, band shell, hurdles, cattle panels, the unique dumpster dive, train tracks, tractor trailer crawl, fountains, tires and junk car areas. The Urban Dash event committee is actively seeking sponsors, volunteers and vendors for the annual community event.

Fair Park’s 5K Urban Dash is an event for the Friends of Fair Park, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote Fair Park’s year-round use, support Fair Park’s museums, preserve Fair Park’s buildings, art, sculpture and related artifacts of the 1936 Texas Centennial, and thoughtfully plan for Fair Park’s future.
