Hughes Family Tribute Center will host a 10-week Dementia Care-Partner Support Group beginning Tuesday, September 12 at 6:30 p.m. and continuing through Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Care partners who are interested in attending the support group are asked to register to attend and pay $25.00 (plus tax and processing fees) to cover the cost of the workbook and class materials. Limited scholarships are available.

"Feeling understood by others brings down barriers between the dementia care partner and the outside world. This process of being understood is central to being compassionate with oneself. The more people who are compassionate to the dementia care partner from the outside in, the more they are capable of being self-compassionate from the inside out."

Each weekly session will cover different aspects of caring for someone with dementia. For example, topics during the first three weeks include:

- The first week will introduce the hosts of the group, distribute the Dementia Care-Partner Workbook to those that registered, and begin discussions of what the group will experience and learn over the next 10 weeks.

- The second week will begin a foundation to understand and learn about what dementia is, how it is diagnosed, the various forms of dementia, and much more.

- Week 3 will discuss the key parts of the brain and their functions, defining activities of daily living, and the different stages of dementia from mild cognitive impairment to late-stage dementia. This week builds on top of Week 2's discussion of what dementia is and how it impacts the mind and physical body.

A new chapter begins when the 8^th Annual Festival of Books returns to downtown Winnsboro on Friday and Saturday, May 1 and 2. Hosted by Winnsboro Center for the Arts (WCA), this FREE event turns the streets of downtown into a celebration of stories and storytellers, allowing guests to meet and mingle with authors from all over Texas and enjoy a variety of literary activities for all ages. The event takes place on The Bowery in downtown Winnsboro, where guests can stroll the towns storybook-like streets and pop in and out of charming shops and eateries. And it's only two hours from DFW!

This years event includes two very special guests:

Bob Livingston, the events featured author, is a pioneering Texas singer-songwriter and member of the legendary Lost Gonzo Band, a group that helped shape the sound of progressive country in the 1970s. Livingston is author of Gypsy Alibi: A Gonzo Memoir, winner of the Best First Book of Nonfiction by the Texas Institute of Letters for its colorful tales about the untamed world of Texas music. He has also served as a cultural ambassador for the U.S. State Department, taking his music to 30-plus countries and collaborating with musicians from around the world.

Corduroy is a beloved storybook character who has been entertaining young readers with his adventures since the 1960s. Guests can get hugs, high-fives and photos with Corduroy at the event!

FRIDAY, MAY 1, 6 9 p.m.: Kick off the festival with a literal celebration! The evening features:

A Meet & Greet with the festivals celebrated Texas authors from 6 7 p.m.
